Refinery29 hosts #theshoppingblock #foundatsimon at South Shore Plaza

On Saturday September 26th, I hosted Refinery29’s #theShoppingBlock at South Shore Plaza with Erica Corsano. It was an inspiring way to spend a Saturday! I Fancied a New Wardrobe and managed to find one at #theshoppingblock.

Truthfully, I didn’t know what to expect of the day when I signed on to do it, but was pleasantly surprised to find 6 booths with various local vendors of accessories and vintage clothing including Melene Kent Jewels and The 3rd Piece knits. I ended up finding two great steals at C&C Company–a vintage retailer from Brooklyn NYC. A black sueded leather jacket and a plaid western shirt, that Erica suggested I style with a simple black tank dress from H&M. Here are my pics from my instagram page!

Here’s the vintage black suede jacket. It has a cool detail in the back that my friend Nicole thought was skin. Upon touching it she discovered that if it WAS my skin, i was in dire need of a good moisturizer. My husband hates this jumpsuit by Young Fabulous and Broke, and I liked it until i decided to “hem” it myself by cutting the bottom off by an inch too many. Oh well, I guess I will just have to wear shorter heels with it. My hub said my super high heels made me look like a clown on stilts, so I guess it’s good that I hacked the length. Hopefully he will come around and decide to like it. He said I look like Farah Faucet. sp?IMG_9364

We also found solace in crafts time at the DIY canvas tote making booth. Erica equated it to “rehab” for the fashionistas. I tried to copy the demo bag, but attaching studs without a hammer was quite difficult. I ended up with this. Not so bad!

The whole concept of bringing in small local vendors to a mall where they may not necessarily be able to set up shop was very innovative of Refinery29. I really enjoyed the curating that their team did to select the vendors. South Shore Plaza was a perfect backdrop to #theShoppingBlock #foundatsimon because the shoppers who normally shop there likely don’t get to see the small vendors represented. Likewise, the guests that we invited to attend the event don’t normally shop at shopping malls, so it was a win win overall for both parties.
